Palace declares May 9 a special non-working holiday

Heads up, May 9 has been declared a special non-working holiday in the Philippines.

“May 9, Election Day, is a special non-working holiday per Proclamation No. 1254, signed by President Aquino on April 25, to enable the people to properly exercise their right of suffrage,” according to Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr.
   
Some 54,363,844 people are expected to vote in the May 9 local and national elections to elect a new president, vice president, 12 senators, one district representative, one party list representative, and provincial/city/municipal officials.
