Balikbayan collapses at NAIA due to heat

This is a good reminder that we should hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

A Filipino balikbayan from Guam collapsed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 on Apr 28, Thursday morning, ABS-CBN News reports.

Airport police Ric Ongtawco and Elmer Langit were on routine security patrol inside the baggage conveyor area when they noticed a commotion because of a man sprawled on the floor while waiting for his luggage.

The man was identified as passenger Eligio Garcia Medina, 70, of Guagua, Pampanga. He rode the Philippine Airlines flight PR 111 from Guam.

His fellow passengers said that he complained about the heat after disembarking the plane. “Grabe na pala ang init sa Pilipinas,” (The heat in the Philippines is really bad) he said.

Medina was immediately rushed to San Juan de Dios Hospital after receiving treatment.

Earlier this month, a NAIA employee died because of heat stroke.
