LRT suffered power glitch after transformers exploded due to rain

We suspect that a new operator has taken over Metro Manila’s transport systems — the Devil.

That’s the only explanation for all these mishaps happening. After all, didn’t Department of Transportation and Communications chief Jun Abaya already say that they’re doing their best and that everything is getting fixed?

On Mon, Apr 25, the Metro Rail Transit bogged down for the nth time. On Thu, Apr 28, it was the Light Rail Transit Line 1’s turn.

“Commuters were stranded at stations LRT-1 stations during yesterday morning’s rush hour after a power shortage delayed train trips,” reports Robertzon Ramirez in The Philippine Star.

“LRT-1 operations director Rodrigo Bulario explained that electricity transformers near the LRT-1 depot in Pasay City exploded following heavy rains. With the power source compromised, the trains ran every 15 minutes instead of every three minutes. Only 13 out of the LRT-1’s 28 trains were able to run on backup power,” it added.

The LRT-1 announced on its Twitter account that all 28 trains – pulling 87 light rail vehicles – were running with the speed of 40 kilometers per hour and at four-minute intervals by around 7am.

By that time, the LRT commuters’ day was already ruined. So, what lesson do we learn from this neverending fiasco? Nothing, actually. All it brings us is rage.
