With negative campaigns going around, the dirty side of elections has already reared its ugly head. An innocent dentist has been dragged into the circus that is Philippine politics simply because he shares the surname of one of the presidential candidates, Duterte.
Dr. Guian Paolo D. Duterte has refuted claims linking his name to the family of presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. The dentist from Cagayan de Oro vehemently denied being some sort of a dummy owner of properties.
His name has been dragged into a series of media exposés by Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on allegedly hidden properties and bank accounts of the Davao Mayor.
“It is unfortunate that my name has been publicly mentioned in the GMA7 News report last April 27 of which Senator Antonio Trillanes IV accused Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte and his family of possessing illegally amassed wealth,” said Dr. Duterte on a statement posted on his Facebook page on Sunday, May 1.
“For the record, I am a practicing pediatric dentist and I have established regular clientele, through private practice based in Cagayan de Oro City,” he added.
The dentist said that he acquired the real estate property in question through a loan from Bank of the Philippine Islands.
Dr. Duterte emphasized that he has never been a politician, and neither has he sought elective position. His family hails from Cebu and he has yet to establish his family’s connection to Mayor Duterte.
