MMDA chief Emerson Carlos says list showing CCTV cameras’ locations is ‘fake’

No matter how many times people are reminded not to believe everything they see online right away, they keep sharing unverified information.

Albert Einstein would tag these people as stupid. However, since Einstein is dead and we would like to cultivate a culture of positivity, we’ll call them “cluelessly optimistic.”

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chair Emerson Carlos has slammed the distribution of a list that supposedly shows the locations of its closed circuit television cameras on EDSA, Commonwealth Avenue, and C-5.

The disputed list (see below) has gone viral.

It supposedly lists the alleged locations of the 34 CCTV cameras — among the 250 installed all over Metro Manila for the implementation of the agency’s “no-contact” apprehension policy.

“For the record, Carlos said on a radio interview on Sun, May 1, the list got less than five of the locations right,” reports Kristine Felisse Mangunay in Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Moreover, Carlos pointed out: “And the spelling of Roxas is wrong. What is written is ‘Roaxas Boulevard.”

Carlos went on to say, “If you know where the cameras are, why do you need to brag that the camera is there? And to top it off, you publish [a list].”

The report noted: “Since the start of the re-implementation of the MMDA’s contactless policy on April 15, it has not revealed the location of its CCTV cameras to avoid alerting motorists and ensure their compliance with traffic rules at all times.”

That said, there are countries that let motorists know where speed traffic cameras are located. Example: Singapore
