VP Binay and daughter Nancy run into Mar and Korina at Manila Cathedral

So, what do you do when you run into a person you don’t like at church? Worse, what do you do when you end up sitting near that person? For such an encounter, you must have incredible poise or an incredibly thick skin.

On Mon, May 2, at the Manila Cathedral, Vice President Jejomar Binay and his daughter, Sen. Nancy Binay, sat on the same pew as administration standard bearer Mar Roxas and his wife, Korina Sanchez.

In an interview after the Mass and the signing of covenant for Truthful, Responsible, Upright, Transparent, and Honest (TRUTH) elections, Nancy described the encounter with her father’s presidential race rival as “awkward.”

“Noong umpisa lang naman ‘yung medyo awkward. But, I guess, ‘di ba nasa Misa ka and ‘pag nakinig ka doon sa homily parang nawala na lahat ‘yon (In the beginning it was really awkward. But, I guess, you’re attending mass and when you listen to the homily, it all goes away),” Nancy was quoted as saying in a GMA News Online report by Amita Legaspi.

The report noted: “Roxas was first to arrive at the Manila Cathedral together with his wife, broadcaster Korina Sanchez. They sat on the front pew, which was alloted for the presidential candidates, near the aisle. Binay came minutes later accompanied by Sen. Binay. He was escorted to [the] same pew but sat on the opposite end. Roxas and Binay acknowledged each other’s presence by nodding their heads. Roxas stood up when Binay passed by him but the two did not shake hands.”
