Boom! Man arrested for MRT bomb joke says, ‘Hindi naman po ako masamang tao’

Despite repeated reminders that bomb jokes are illegal, so many people still think it’s a laughing matter.

But a man who uttered a bomb joke on Tue, May 3, at the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Guadalupe station ended up in tears after he got arrested.

Apparently, the man had been in a hurry and didn’t want the MRT security guard to open the box he was carrying. He had told the security guard, “Wala namang bomba ‘yan (That doesn’t have a bomb).”

With law enforcement agencies now on high alert due to the upcoming elections, the guard didn’t want to take chances. She told the man, “Sir, hindi n’yo yata alam ang sinasabi n’yo (Sir, you don’t know what you’re saying).”

The man was promptly arrested. When confronted by the prospect of going to jail because of his joke, the man shed tears and said, “Hindi naman po ako masamang tao (I am not a bad person).”

That may be so, but the man needs to get clued in on Presidential Decree 1727, which prohibits “the malicious dissemination of false information of the willful making of any threat concerning bombs, explosives, and such.”

Anyone found guilty of violating this law faces “imprisonment of not more than five years, or a fine or not more than forty thousand pesos (PHP40,000.00) or both at the discretion of the court having jurisdiction over the offense herein defined and penalized.” Boom!
