WATCH: Young voters meet human right victims to talk about Martial Law

Try watching this video without any political bias. It’s a good reminder of how history can be forgotten or altered if we’re not alert.

Eight young voters met some of the victims of human rights violations during Martial Law. They talked about the situation of the country during the years of dictatorship under former President Ferdinand Marcos.

The millennials said that the martial law “was good for our country.”

According to them, it was a time when “the law was followed and the people were disciplined.”

One of them described Marcos as a very strict president…”like how your parents are strict because they love you.”

Overall, they concluded that “it was a good time for the Philippines”. They were all in favor of Martial Law.

These kids were in for a surprise. They realized that the Marcos rule wasn’t all roses and daises.

Human rights victims Danilo dela Fuente, Lourdes Victoriano, Marie Maiso and Rodel Briones shared the jarring realities they suffered during the Martial Law years.

They told stories of rape, imprisonment, electrocution.

They talked about their painful experiences. They talked about their friends and relatives who suffered more than they did.

“It’s overwhelming to discover what happened during the Martial Law,” said one of the young voters.

“They taught us differently in school,” said the other.

Watch it and remember that we’re fighting a battle to keep history real.
