Anderson Cooper dismisses anti-Mar meme as fake

In the past few days, a meme with a quote attributed to CNN journalist Anderson Cooper has been making the rounds on social media.

It shows a photo of gray metal haired Cooper with an inset photo of Liberal Party standard bearer Mar Roxas and his wife, Korina Sanchez, and this alleged quote: “When I heard that this corrupt couple are running for office…May God help the Philippines.”

Twitter user Abe Quinto asked Cooper via a tweet if he, indeed, issued such a statement against Roxas and Sanchez. Cooper, via his official verified Twitter account, tweeted in reply: “I did not say this. It’s fake.”

The American journalist might as well have said, “Care ko?”

It may be recalled that Cooper had a verbal tiff with Sanchez during his coverage of the Typhoon Yolanda aftermath in Tacloban City in 2013. Sanchez was annoyed by Cooper’s comment that the government’s response to the tragedy was slow.

Roxas was the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary back then and had led the government’s relief and rehabilitation efforts.

“A radio broadcaster named Korina Sanchez has taken issue with some of my reporting, Cooper had remarked. “She also is not just a radio broadcaster; she also happens to be the wife of the Interior Minister (Secretary Manuel Roxas II) who is overseeing the relief effort on the ground. Miss Sanchez seems to be under the mistaken impression that I said I saw no presence of Philippine government on the ground in Tacloban. I never said that.”
