COMELEC: Daniel and Kathryn did not violate election laws for ballot photos

Sorry bashers, but it looks like Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo are in the clear.

According to COMELEC Commissioner Rowena Guanzon, Daniel and Kathryn did not violate elections laws for their controversial viral photo because the ballots shown on the picture had not been shaded, reports Rosette Adel of Philippine Star.

The two young stars were criticized earlier today after ABS-CBN News posted photos of Daniel and Kathryn showing off their ballots. Those photos circulated on social media.

According to COMELEC rules, taking photos of the ballots within the polling place is not allowed.

However, Guanzon noted that it was the media, not Daniel and Kathryn themselves, who took the photos. Thus, no laws violated.

“Iba kumuha sa kanya obviously, ‘di siya ang kumuha sa kanya,” Guanzon explained. “Tignan natin ang circumstances ha, kasi baka may iba pang facts… pero sa ngayon ah, ‘yun lang? That’s not violating the secrecy of ballot.”

Coconuts Manila reached out to Star Magic, ABS-CBN’s talent management arm, but it said it did not have a statement on the issue.
