Richard Gomez finally wins an election, proclaimed Ormoc City mayor

At last! After years of trying to win an elective post, Richard Gomez was proclaimed mayor of Ormoc City in Leyte on Tue, May 10.

The actor bested his competition —  Liberal Party candidate Ondo Codilla and independent candidate Mar Gallardo — with 52,234 or 54.2 percent of the votes.

Richard, 50, should be very happy right now for winning an election after several attempts.

The actor ran for senator in 2007 but lost. He ran as congressman in Ormoc, Letye in 2010 but was disqualifie due to residency issues.

He first ran as mayor of Ormoc City in Leye in 2013 but lost to Edward Codilla.

In 2001, Richard was named as nominee of party-list group Mamamayan Ayaw sa Droga (MAD), but it was barred by the Commission on Elections from taking seats in Congress.

Richard was last seen on television in the ABS-CBN drama You’re My Home. In an interview before yesterday’s polls, he said he will put on hold his showbiz engagements if he wins as Ormoc City mayor.
