These scavengers found valuable needles in a filthy haystack, but they only got a PHP500 reward for their efforts.
All SD memory cards of the Commission of Elections in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, are now in good hands — that is, after three of them were recovered by scavengers in a dumpsite on Wednesday.
According to election officer Revo Sorbito, the SD cards were left in a box that was accidentally picked up by garbage men from Comelec-Kabankalan, Inquirer reports.
Comelec asked scavengers for help in locating the SD cards. They were promised a PHP500 reward each.
The SD cards were later found by Neca Sialsa, 24 and Gina Regalado, 48.
Two of the SD cards were found in brown envelopes. The other one was found in the dumpsite.
Sorbito maintains that no anomaly took place. The SD cards are now with the Comelec provincial office.
The winners in Kabankalan were proclaimed on Tuesday, May 10.
