Dear Maria Isabel Lopez, never apologize for being fabulous

By now you’ve probably seen that photo taken in Cannes where former beauty queen Maria Isabel Lopez unwittingly upstaged the cast of Ma’Rosa — including the film’s director Brillante Mendoza and best actress winner Jacyln Jose — in her emerald green Albert Andrada gown and supermodel pose.

On Sat, May 21 Lopez wrote an article about what went on seconds before that shoot.

She played a minor role in the movie — all of two minutes — and so when they alighted from the car, she positioned herself on the far right side “as I don’t want to steal the limelight from Brillante and Jaclyn, as they were being interviewed by the French TV.”

In the picture taking that followed, she was again positioned in the far right side, with new actor John Paul Duray. But because her “very expensive Albert Andrada creation” was being stepped on, she created a space between her and the actors. “If you can only see how dirty it is on the tail,” she wrote.

Lopez clarified that she was not trying to steal Jose’s nor Mendoza’s thunder. “I was not trying to make a scene. I was simply protecting myself from falling down and from making the gown dirty.”

“The walk, the smile, the projection, the wave, was exactly the same moves in the 2009 red carpet of the 62nd Cannes film Festival. The same make up done by me, the same hairstyle. The same old me…only in a different gown, in a different time when the Philippines is now the social media capital of the world.”

Note to Maria Isabel Lopez: Never apologize for being fabulous. Here are some more photos of you. Feel better.
