Duterte inauguration will be low-key, he’ll give 5-minute speech

This is one of the things that people have to give him credit for.

Don’t expect anything grand during the inauguration of incoming President Rodrigo Duterte, as he plans to make it as low-key as possible. For starters, he will take his oath of office at Malacañan Palace to lessen the expenses that are usually involved in the ceremony.

Duterte laid out his plan for his inauguration during an impromptu press conference on Mon night, May 23.

“Doon na lang [sa Palace] kasi wala nang gastos. May finger food[s] lang siguro because it’s nearing noontime, but there will be no eating after. Before lang, tapos mag-oath ako. Then I will go nationwide on TV and then I will just spell out my governance in five minutes (It will be held at the Palace so we won’t spend money. There will be finger food served because it’s nearing noontime, but there will be no eating after the oath-taking. Then, I’ll just take my oath and then later go on national TV to spell out my governance in five minutes),” he said.

In keeping with his no-nonsense style, Duterte said he is looking for a barong made of cotton for his inauguration. He also plans on maintaining a two-car security set-up, refusing to be followed by a bigger entourage of several security escorts.

“Duterte, who returned to Davao City after winning the May 9 elections, said he is flying to Manila on the day of the inauguration, June 30, which is a Thursday,” reports ABS-CBN News.

“I’ll go there on the day of my oath of office, not before. Pag na-delay ‘yung flight, walang oath-taking, bahala kayo diyan (I’ll go there when I’m going to take my oath of office. If the flight is delayed, there will be no oath-taking, I’ll leave it up to people),” Duterte remarked.

The Quirino Grandstand has traditionally been the place for presidentials — seven of the country’s 15 Philippine persidents took their oaths there.

The report likewise added that “Duterte has yet to decide where he will stay following his inauguration. He explained that he is considering going back to Davao City after his inauguration, where he plans to hold office as President.”
