Iloilo school janitor killed by construction worker who accused him of taking lechon head

We know that the calorie-rich roasted pig or lechon can cause a food coma — but we didn’t expect it to cause a violent death.

There was an alumni homecoming at the Igbaras National High School in Igbaras, Iloilo, on Sat night, May 21.

One alumnus reportedly told construction worker Jose Escosado, 50, who was also staying at the bunkhouse near the school, to take home the unconsumed bottles of beer and the head of the roasted pig that was served at the gathering.

However, sometime after midnight, Escosado was only able to bring the bottles of beer back to the bunkhouse because the lechon head was gone.

Two other workers were also staying at the bunkhouse — school janitor Alfredo Encio, 56, and Escosado’s fellow construction worker Mark Anthony Licos, 26. Apparently, Escosado thought that the lechon head was taken by Encio so he confronted the latter.

Licos claimed later that the two got into an argument and Escosado allegedly hit Encio in the head with a flower pot. When they saw that Encio had fallen, Licos and Escosado fled from the scene.

“Escosado and Licos were later arrested. Inspector Seferino Gelpe, Igbaras Police chief,  said that Escodsado is now facing murder charges,” reports Jennifer P. Rendon in Banat.
