Why Andi Eigenmann almost quit showbiz

It’s safe to say that Jaclyn Jose wouldn’t have won the Cannes best actress award this year if Andi Eigenmann pushed through with her plan.

During a homecoming reception for the cast members of Ma’Rosa on Wed, May 25, Andi admitted she had thought about quitting showbiz.

“[I thought] my time is over in showbiz and what Filipinos really look for is really different from what I can offer,” Andi told PEP.ph. “I already embraced that. I believed that and it’s okay, I’ll just find something else to do.”

Andi explained she felt like showbiz was already done with her and that she felt “misunderstood for quite a while.”

However, the 25-year-old actress said her experience at the 69th Cannes Film Festival, as part of Brillante Mendoza’s Ma’Rosa, renewed her faith in her place in the industry.

“I arrive in France where everybody there appreciates me and what I can do,” she said.

Andi’s breakthrough in showbiz came when she headlined the 2010 soap oper Agua Bendita, which was immediately followed by a TV show with Coco Martin and Maja Salvador titled Minsan Lang Kitang Iibigin. However, her rise to superstardom was cut short when she got pregnant in 2011.

But during the Ma’Rosa homecoming dinner, Andi said her she refuses to let her past define her.

“I know that I’m worth something more and I’m so happy that, internationally, that has been recognized,” she said.

Jaclyn told Nathalie Tomada of the Philippine Star that Andi “snagged two pictorials while at Cannes.”

In a previous interview following her best actress win at the 69th Cannes Film Festival, Jaclyn said she accepted Ma’Rosa because she wanted Andi to experience attending an international film festival.
