Emergency 911 number in the Philippines soon?

An emergency response system will be a useful addition to our country’s telephone network. With Davao mayor Rodrigo Duterte on his way to presidency, it looks like the 911 emergency number may be accessible for the whole nation soon.

Pure Force and Rescue Corporation chief executive officer Jojo Soliman said that he presented to the incoming Presindent his two-year-old citizen safety and rescue app which the public can use to report emergencies, Manila Bulletin reports.

Sumulat ako ng letter sa kanya na itong system ipapagamit namin sa Pilipinas, free of charge,” Soliman said. “Prinesent namin ‘yung Pure Force [dahil] ‘yung capability natin is national. (I wrote a letter to [Duterte] to offer the Pure Force system for use in the Philippines, free of charge…because it is capable of nationwide coverage.)”

The Philippine National Police, Metro Manila Development Authority, Department of Health, 17 local government units, and 14 cities have already partnered with Pure Force.

The number used by Pure Force is 86505, but Soliman explained that it’s easy to switch to 911 once an arrangement with the telecommunication companies has been made.

There is also an application which may be used by those using smart phones.

Soliman said that he wants to see the Filipinos get the service they deserve, so he is offering the service for free.

“I cannot sign now as a mayor; I will sign as soon as I sit down [as president],” Duterte reportedly told Soliman.

Davao is one of the pioneer cities using 911 as the number to be dialed in case of emergency.
