Ex-inmate among top QC graduates

He was given a second chance, and he used it pretty well.

Victorio Principe was once an inmate at the Quezon City Jail. He finished his high school through the Alternative Learning System (ALS) while in prison.

In an inspiring story of redemption, he pulled off a 180-degree turn and became one of the city’s top graduates.

With an average of 99 percent in the ALS equivalency exam, the 20-year old landed the 4th highest score in all Quezon City passers.

He was jailed in November 2013 for being a courier for a drug group.

Hanggang Grade VI lang po kasi natapos ko at kailangan na huminto kasi kinailangan magtrabaho sa construction dahil wala na kaming kakainin.” (I only finished Grade VI. I had to stop schooling because I needed to work in construction so I could put food on the table.)

Mayor Herbert M. Bautista saw potential in the boy and offered him a full scholarship to a four-year course at the Quezon City Polytechnic University (QCPU).

Principe was released in June last year and came back only for the graduation ceremonies.
