Look: ‘Badjao Girl’ transforms into a model in first-ever photo shoot

A young girl begging in the streets became an internet sweetheart when her photographs taken during the Pahiyas festival in Quezon went viral last week.

Rita Gabiola is now stunning fans in a series of photos where she tried her hand at modeling.

On Wednesday, James Christopher Domingo posted shots of the 13-year-old on his Facebook page. With a well-chiseled face, lean frame, and an incredible shade of flawless brown skin, it looked like the girl was born to walk the runway.

For the shoot, Domingo mentioned that Gabiola received well-deserved pampering from Peps Silvestre Salon, Dra. Annalice Gumawid and Dr. Andrew, and make up from Janell Capuchino. The photos were taken by Wilmark K. Jolindon and Stephen Capuchino.

Local lifestyle show Rated K shared more of her pictures.

The nice thing about Badjao girl’s newfound fame? She also received a scholarship from the show hosted by Korina Sanchez. She earlier said that she wants to finish school and become a teacher.

Thanks to this young girls’s looks, the spotlight is now on the Badjao indigenous people and their plight. Politicians, celebrities and organizations have promised to help their community.

Gabiola doesn’t seem to be promoting herself as a model, but her looks and skills are natural. Some are even comparing her to Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach.

In spite of the fame, the young girl remains rooted. Education is a priority for her. Gabiola’s parents dream of the same thing for their child.
