In a statement sent to ABS-CBN’s late night talk show Tonight with Boy Abunda, Baste explained he and Ellen were together in Siargao because they have common friends. He also took the opportunity to thank Ellen for supporting his father during the election campaign.

Baste added he expected the intrigue that would come because of the photos.

His complete statement reads:

“May common friends kami kaya kami nagkasama-sama. Pagkakataon ko na rin na magpasalamat sa kaniya kasi very vocal siya sa pagsuporta sa papa ko during the campaign. Ganon lang kasimple. Pero expected ko na rin na intrigahin kami. (We have common friends and that’s why we were in the same group. It was also a chance for me to thank Ellen for supporting my father’s political campaign. It’s that simple, but I was expecting that there would be rumors.)”

This isn’t the first time someone related to the President of the Philippines was linked to a showbiz personality during their term.

Mikey Arroyo was linked to actress Rufa Mae Quinto during his mother Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s term as president. And who can forget presidential sister Kris Aquino being linked to Junjun Binay, son of Vice President Jejomar Binay, in 2010? So really, it seems like Baste is merely fulfilling a tradition.

But slow down, folks: Baste is off the market. According to reports, he has a girlfriend and a two-year-old son.
