Duterte to offer PHP3M reward for cops who kill drug lords

Looks like incoming President Rodrigo Duterte is taking concrete steps to fulfill his promise of supressing crime and drug-related activities in three to six months.

Duterte offered a PHP3 million reward for cops who can capture or kill drug lords, GMA News reports.

The reward money is from his excess campaign funds, which, by his calculation, is enough for about 100 criminals.

“I’m not saying you kill them, but the order is dead or alive,” said the tough-talking mayor. “Pagka sinabi kong dead or alive. Alam nila kung tumaas ang kamay, talagang alive ‘yan. Pagka lumaban, edi dead ‘yan (When I say ‘dead or alive,’ they know that if the criminal raises his hands to surrender, they’re alive. If the criminals fight, they are dead.)”

Incoming National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) director Dante Gierran has already been informed of Duterte’s plans.

Duterte’s chosen director general of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Chief Supt. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa said that giving rewards is “additional motivation” for law enforcers to do well in their job.
