Ms. Zamboanga’s Q&A response on Miss Earth competition goes viral

Perhaps climate change experts have something to say about this.

At last night’s Miss Earth competition held at the UP Theater in Diliman, Miss Zamboanga Bellatrix Tan revealed her unique views about the weather-related phenomena #ElNiño and #LaNiña.

Here’s the video uploaded by Twitter user Miss Krizzy.

One of the judges best decribed Miss Zamboanga’s answer as: “Nakakaloka! (This will make me go crazy!)”

In summary, she said that we should start planting trees to fight El Niño, a case of extreme draught. “If we start now, we will achieve La Niña,” she added.

La Niña generally brings extreme rains, and even hurricanes, in some areas. Both #ElNiño and #LaNiña are considered problematic weather situations.

Well, who are we to judge? Perhaps science wasn’t Miss Zamboanga’s favorite subject when she was in school.

Unfortunately, basic science is an important aspect of the Miss Earth competition as it has an advocacy for raising awareness about environmental awareness.

Bellatrix didn’t win a crown.

Imelda Schweighart was crowned as the new Miss Philippines Earth 2016.

Here are the other winners:

Miss Eco-tourism: Vienna – Melanie Mader
Miss Philippines Fire: Rosales, Pangasinan – Shannon Rebecca Bridgman
Miss Philippines Water: Laoag City – Loren Mar Artajos
Miss Philippines Earth: Puerto Princesa City, Imelda Schweighart
Miss Philippines Air: London, Kiaragiel Gregorio

Better luck next time, Miss Zamboanga! Remember, it took Pia Wurtzbach three tries to win a crown!
