Not so bad: More PH schools in 2016 QS Asia university rankings

The good news? Three more schools from the Philippines were included in in the annual QS University Rankings Asia. The bad? None from our country made it to the top 50.

London-based education and career consultancy Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) released a list of the top Asian universities on Tuesday, June 14. 

Silliman University in Dumaguete and Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro debuted at the 251-300 bracket, while University of San Carlos in Cebu made it to the 301-350 bracket.

The 2016 list has been expanded to include 350 schools, 50 more than the usual list of 300. 

At the the top spot for our country, University of the Philippines in Quezon City was ranked 70th, the same as last year’s rank. 

Ateneo de Manila University, also in Quezon City, jumped to the 99th spot this year from 114th in 2015.

De La Salle University also took a huge leap from last year’s 183rd spot to this year’s 143rd. 

University of Sto. Tomas, however, went down 14 spots from last year’s 143rd spot, to this year’s 157th. 

For the third year in the row, National University of Singapore kept its top spot with a perfect overall score of 100. The University of Hong Kong is at a close second, while Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University ranked third.

The rest of the Top 10 in the Asian University rankings are the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Tsinghua University in China, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, City University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Peking University in China, and Seoul National University in South Korea.
