Duterte offers DENR post to ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation head Gina Lopez

This may baffle some of the followers of incoming President Rodrigo Duterte. It may be recalled that a number of them have accused TV network ABS-CBN’s news group of being “biased.”

Duterte has offered the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) post to Gina Lopez, chair of ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation.

A Philippine Daily Inquirer report noted: “Lopez is the daughter of the late media tycoon Eugenio Lopez Sr.  She was one of the vocal supporters of Duterte during the campaign period. She has been known as an active advocate for the environment.”

A statement released by Duterte’s camp revealed that Lopez met with Duterte 5:23pm on Mon, Jun 20. By 6:15pm, Duterte had announced to his staff that he offered the post to Lopez.

For her part, Lopez, known to be an anti-mining advocate, said she was seriously considering the post but has yet to announce her decision.

“Duterte has considered the DENR post one of the most important in his Cabinet, as he vows to end destructive mining in the Philippines,” noted ABS-CBN News.
