Loose change? Convert them to digital money at NAIA

You’re at the airport with loose change and you have no clue what to do with them.

While giving them to Unicef would be a noble and selfless act, the more practical option is to convert them coins into digital money (including Philippine peso) that you can credit to your online accounts like PayPal, iTunes, Google Play or Viber.

TravelersBox, an Israeli startup, is new but already present in eight countries — including airports in Canada, Italy, Georgia (Tbilisi), Israel, Turkey and the Philippines.

In Metro Manila, the two kiosks are located at NAIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 3.

“One of our top missions is to find the right partners to give travelers the most out of their leftover currency. Viber, which allows people to all any phone number at low rates, [was] a natural partner for us,” said Tomer Zussman, TravelersBox CEO.

How easy is it to use the box?

“The entire transactional process is also simple and efficient. A screen will confirm the amount and guide you to a number of available options to redeem the cash,” reports TechinAsia.com

“After indicating your preference, the screen will prompt you to input an email address or mobile phone number. TravelersBox will proceed to email or SMS you a web link which redirects the user to brand-specific requirements”

And is it worth it? According to Chicago Tribune, “you don’t get the bank exchange rate, but you do at least recover most of the value.”

We’ll settle for that.
