Pinoys warned: Please don’t bring balut to Dubai

Try a pack of Boy Bawang instead of balut?

People going to other countries often bring with them things that would remind them of home. Apparently, some Pinoys think that balut (fertilized duck egg) is the perfect delicacy to fight homesickness. Unfortunately, the exotic food item may not be allowed into some countries.

The Philippine Consulate in Dubai reminded Filipinos entering the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that they should not bring balut. Earlier this year, the Consulate stated, “The entry of commercial and non-commercial quantities (for personal consumption) of balut into Dubai without the necessary customs and health certificates may result into their confiscation by customs authorities and possible delay in immigration clearance of the bearers.”

The announcement came after both the consulate in Dubai and Northern Emirates received “several reports from various individuals regarding the confiscation of fertilized duck eggs (balut) upon entry into Dubai as pasalubong (gift) from the Philippines.”

“Aside from the confiscation of the much-loved Filipino delicacy, customs authorities could delay the immigration clearance of the bearers, the consulate alerted the public,” reports Inquirer.net.
