PNP chief Bato: Surprise drug test on 2,405 cops, 9 found positive for drug use

What a nasty surprise.

On Fri, Jul 1, when Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa assumed office, he ordered a surprise drug test for 2,405 PNP personnel from the national headquarters, regional police offices, and police districts.

“On Mon, Jul 4, Dela Rosa revealed that nine out of the 2,405 policemen subjected to the surprise drug test have been found positive for drug use. He only said that all nine lawmen were from outside Metro Manila. He declined to name them pending a confirmatory drug test,” reports Julliane Love De Jesus on Inquirer.net.

In a prepared statement during a media briefing at the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame in Quezon City, Dela Rosa explained, “These specimens will be subjected to further confirmatory test. Once confirmed, cases would be filed against the policemen.”

Ultimately, the erring cops will be dismissed from service.
