Mang Larry’s Isawan in UP campus, to relocate again

Even those who aren’t students of the University of the Philippines know about Mang Larry’s Isawan.

For more than three decades now, the institution inside the campus has been a popular place for isaw, balun-balunan, isol, walkman and other Pinoy skewered favorites.

The ihaw-ihaw spot, however, will soon relocate for the third time.

Why? Because the university’s Swimming Varsity Team complained about the smoke affecting their daily practice.

Earlier this year, the swimming team asked UP Chancellor Mike Tan that the stall be moved to “a site where the smoke emitted will not be able to reach the vicinity of the swimming pool,” Inquirer reports.

The team’s coach Bernie Cavida, clarified that they are not calling for the eviction of Mang Larry’s. They simply want the eatery to transfer to a different location.

“These kids train here every day; we don’t want to compromise their health,” Cavida said.

Mang Larry’s gets busy at around 5pm, about the same time as the varsity team’s scheduled practice.

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs is currently “processing” the team’s request.

Meanwhile, the owner of Mang Larry’s, businessman Lauro Condencido Jr has satrted hunting for a new spot inside UP Diliman.

Mang Larry’s Isawan opened at a spot near Kalayaan dormitory in 1984. In 2015, it moved to the parking lot of the Law building, but it relocated near the swimming pool area in November.

Where do you think will we find Mang Larry’s next?
