Ozamiz vice-mayor in relationship with high-profile Bilibid inmate

You really can’t make this up. To say that this real-life situation is far stranger than fiction would be an understatement.

Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr. denied having any family or business ties with New Bilibid Prisons inmate Herbert “Ampang” Colangco.

However, Parojinog admitted that his daughter — Ozamiz City Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog — has a relationship with Colangco. The mayor clarified that he disapproved of the relationship and that he “wished it would end.” He also clarified that his daughter and Colangco are not married.

In case you forgot, Colangco, who hails from Ozamis City, is one of the so-called VIP inmates at Bilibid. He’s arguably the richest inmate there as he managed to produce his own music record and even shoot a music video inside prison. He also owned luxury items such as five Rolexes. He was convicted for leading a bank robbery gang.

Parojinog explained that Nova Princess had just been granted an annulment of her marriage to former basketball player Edgar Echavez, who played for the Ginebra Kings in the Philippine Basketball Association.

“I welcome any investigation so that I will have the opportunity to clear my name,” Parojinog added.

“Colangco has been linked to several bank robberies in Metro Manila and is serving time since 2009 at the maximum security compound of the New Bilibid Prisons although it has been exposed that he receives special treatment in violation of penal laws regarding his status as a convicted criminal serving time for a capital offense,” reports Ryan Rosauro in Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The report noted: “Duterte had said that Colangco, along with another inmate, has been running his illegal drug business from inside prison, even manufacturing shabu there.”
