No VIP treatment: President Duterte waits for his turn to get dinner

Lining up to get dinner is no big deal, but when you’re the President, everyone takes notice.

In the Philippines, getting VIP treatment seems to be a thing of the past. Thanks to President Rodrigo Duterte, a simple lifestyle is the new in thing.

So what did the President do this time? He lined up to get food, just as regular guys should.

President Duterte was shown waiting for his turn to get dinner at the Heroes Hall of the Malacañan Palace. There were at least nine people ahead of him in the line to the buffet.

It’s probably safe to assume that there was no VIP table with plated dinners during the simple fellowship dinner held last Sunday.

In the comments section, the guy in front of the President explained that he offered his spot, but Duterte just told him that there was no need for VIP treatment because this is a free country.

The President even held the guy’s shoulders to make him stay in place.

The President also had a light moment with the chefs and servers at the event. It’s easy to see how this humble guy can win hearts with his charm and charisma.

Netizens have good words for his simple gesture. We’re hoping that this can inspire Filipinos to line up in MRT stations and other crowded places.

Next time a stranger cuts you in a buffet line, you can say, “Kung ang Presidente nga pumipila, ikaw pa kaya?”

(“If the President can fall in line, why can’t you?”)
