Pia Wurtzbach: ‘It’s my personal dream for PH to host Miss Universe pageant’

Pia Wurtzbach is currently in the country to talk to President Rodrigo Duterte about holding the Miss Universe pageant in the Philippines.

Before heading to Malacañan Palace, the reigning Miss Universe dropped by at the Department of Tourism office in Makati City on Mon, Jul 18.

“I don’t think that it’s a secret, I think it’s public knowledge that it is my personal dream — and I think the dream of a lot of Filipinos, majority of Filipinos — that someday we’ll see the Miss Universe pageant to be held here,” the 26-year-old beauty queens told members of the press at the DOT office.

She added, “we’re keeping our fingers crossed.”

Pia also said she continues to pursue her goal of being a “great ambassador” for the Philippines throughout her reign as Miss Universe and for the years to come.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to be an ambassador for the Philippines and to promote tourism,” she said.

Pia also said, “It doesn’t end when I pass on my crown. I will still probably wear the Philippines wherever I go.”

On Fri, Jul 15, it was reported that Duterte “approved in principle” plans to host the Miss Universe pageant in the country.

However, DOT secretary Wanda Teo said that if the pageant would be held here, she wants the event date to be moved from January to May.

Teo also said a budget of PHP560 million would be needed to host the pageant in the Philippines.
