On the menu: Banana fritters and sandwiches will be served in Duterte’s SONA

They should know the drill by now: VIPs should come to the President’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) with a full stomach because President Rodrigo Duterte isn’t known for serving fancy meals. Alternatively, they can also stuff their bags with saltine crackers to prevent starvation.

The 3,000 invited guests to the SONA on Monday will be served banana fritters and bite-sized sandwiches with local white cheese, Inquirer reports.

We wonder if the sandwiches will be served crustless.

The House deputy secretary general for legislative operations, Artemio Adasa Jr., explained that they went out of their way to cut down the expenses for the event.

“We’ve reduced our budget for food by more than PHP200,000. We simplified the menu and just copied what was served during the inaugural of President Duterte,” Adasa said in a briefing.

Durian tarts and other Pinoy delights were served at the President’s inauguration. We didn’t hear of anyone who went hungry in the event last month.
