Bed with Wi-Fi for PHP57 a night. The catch? It’s in a container van

Nope, towering condominiums with outrageous fees won’t do for an average Pinoy worker.

So what alternatives do we have? Redesigned shipping containers!

Inspired by capsule hotels, Citihub Dormitory on JP Rizal Street in Mandaluyong City offers dignified and budget-friendly accomodations for individuals looking for an “affordable” halfway house.

According to an ABS-CBN report, the PHP57 per night accommodations will also soon be available in Sta. Ana, Makati, Sta. Mesa, Manila, Davao City and Bataan.

“We plan to expand In dense locations. Our target market are the people who are commuting,” said Citihub’s Nikki Yu.

The chain of dormitories for men is meant for the tired commuters working in the country’s urban centers.

Citihub opened its first dormitory in Mandaluyong City in 2011 with a 264-bed structure. The tenants range from minimum-wage earners to call-center agents and architects.

Each container van has a maximum of 22 beds. Some rooms provide air-conditioning and Wi-Fi connectivity for less than PHP2,000 per month.
