QC rehab center needs more beds, new building, for waitlisted drug users

We’re guessing this can be considered a “good” problem?

Quezon City’s local government-run drug rehabilitation facility, located in Barangay Payatas B, is now operating at full capacity and has no more space to accommodate the growing number of drug users who’ve surrendered to the government.

According to an Inquirer report, 116 people are on the wait list for admission to the Quezon City Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center, also known as Tahanan.

To solve the problem, the QC government has requested permission for an additional 150 beds for Tahanan.

A new two-story building, which can accommodate 78 double-deck beds, is also awaiting accreditation from the Department of Health, added the report.

In the meantime, barangay officials will be in charge of monitoring the activities of those on the wait list.

In Quezon City, over 4,000 drug users have so far surrendered to the government’s controversial campaign against drug abuse, which has encouraged extrajudicial killings of suspected drug users and small-time pushers.
