Pacquiao: ‘Wala namang magbabawal sa akin na mag-absent ako’

Naturally, this has become a very hot issue.

When Senator Manny Pacquiao admitted that he’s going back to boxing despite serving in the Senate, a lot of people criticized him for not being a man of his word. Pacquiao had declared he was retiring from boxing after his Apr 10 fight against Tim Bradley. This was in anticipation of Senate win.

But now that he’s senator, Pacquiao said he realized he misses boxing.

In one of the latest ABS-CBN Sports interviews on his return to the ring, Pacquiao reiterated that he will try his best to keep his promise “to refrain from absenteeism, even as he also plans to make a boxing comeback later this year.”

When asked if he intends to keep his promise that he will no longer be a habitual absentee, Pacquiao’s latest answer is this: “Sinisikap natin ‘yan.” Translation: “I am trying to do that.”

This is not what exactly he said when he was newly elected. He had declared that he would do his best to have “perfect attendance.”

This time around, Pacquiao added, “Dahil unang-una wala namang magbabawal sa akin na mag-absent ako.”

(“Because in the first place, nobody can prevent me from being absent.”)

He then explained, “Pero ang goal ko talaga ay magampanan ang trabaho ko.”

(“But my goal is to do my job.”)

Er, which job?
