A giant bucket of Jollibee’s signature fried chicken took center stage at the final preps for the fast-food giant’s opening at Skokie in the Chicago metropolitan area on Jul 29, Fri morning (US time).
According to Chicago Eater, corporate executives led the ceremonial “Chickenjoy toast, where they raise a piece of fried chicken as if it was a glass of champagne and toast to the success of the restaurant.”
Sounds delicious!
It was the first Jollibee store to open in the United States midwest location.
On opening day, about 5,000 customers reportedly came to have their Chickenjoy and palabok fix. The first customers in line camped out to ensure that they’d get to dine in the popular fast-food chain.
They were welcomed by Jollibee North America Group President Mr. Jose Miñana and of course, the Bee himself.
It may be recalled that Jollibee caught the attention of food icon Anthony Bourdain. During his recent visit to the Philippines, he made sure to try it.
The Chicago menu includes classic Pinoy favorites like Chickenjoy, palabok and peach mango pie. It also has items not available in the Philippine menu like the halo-halo, a popular dessert similar to the Korean bingsu.
The Skokie branch represents Jollibee’s 34th restaurant in the US. Another one is slated to open at the Seafood City later this year.
