Nestlé invests PHP2B on Milo malt plant in Lipa, Batangas

Great things start from small beginnings.

Nestlé Philippines chairman and CEO Jacques Reber recently announced the ongoing construction of a 5,400-square meter Milo malt plant at the company’s Lipa, Batangas, factory. The company is putting in PHP2 billion for the project.

Not exactly a small beginning, but you know what we mean.

“The announcement of the new Milo malt plant investment coincides with the celebration of the global Nestlé Group’s 150th anniversary this year. The plant will provide all the country’s Protomalt requirements for Milo,” reports Adobo Magazine.

The report noted: “Protomalt, a Nestlé proprietary malt extract and a key nutritional ingredient of Milo. At present, Protomalt for Milo manufactured in the Philippines is from Singapore, where the Nestlé Group’s biggest malt plant is located. The new plant will use barley and cassava as major raw materials for the production of the malt extract.”

Initially, cassava will be sourced from Thailand, but, as the report indicated, “Nestlé is now actively looking at using cassava sourced from farmers in Philippines.”
