Presidential chief legal counsel Salvador Panelo is back with more episodes of Foot Meets Mouth in Malacañang Palace, the president’s official residence in Manila.

Speaking to the media on Wed, Aug 10, Panelo said Filipinos “have no right to question” President Rodrigo Duterte’s decisions, especially his approval of Ferdinand Marcos’ burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

“We Filipinos as voters heard that and accepted that, and we gave him the mandate. Therefore I think, especially those who voted for him, have no right to question him now, having given him the authority to do that,” Panelo was quoted in an ABS-CBN report.

“The Armed Forces regulation is very clear. Soldiers as well as presidents are privileged to be interred there,” Panelo added, referring to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

As for the argument against Marcos’ burial — he killed people, plundered the country, and lied while about his military records — this is what Panelo had to say.

“The regulation does not distinguish if you are a president or a soldier, or a good one or a bad one. There is no question that this president is entitled to be interred.”

Should we wait until the real heroes turn in their graves and walk out of Libingan ng mga Bayani?
