Duterte to declare all appointive government posts vacant on Monday

President Rodrigo Duterte said on Sun, Aug 21, he was declaring all appointive government positions vacant since the bureaucracy had not heeded his call to stop corruption.

“I would like to issue a warning that on Monday… I will declare all your positions, all throughout the country vacant. I still hear corruption,” Duterte said in a televised news conference from his office in Davao City.

Duterte singled out the Land Transportation Office and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, whose leaders must report to him next week.

Career officials will not be affected. Appointees in government corporations are included, he said.

“Lahat [Everyone], even numbering thousands, consider yourself in the crucible of the truth about corruption,” he said.

“LTO, regulatory bodies, be prepared to be assigned in Jolo and in Basilan. You will deserve the ambiance enjoy the environment, you have only yourself to blame for being corrupt,” he said.

Duterte said he “hates” corruption and “I do not want to give the slightest headache to my fellow human beings.”

Duterte said he would revisit the case of businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles, who is detained on corruption charges for allegedly conspiring with lawmakers to steal millions of pesos in discretionary funds or “pork barrel.”

“Let us revisit the Napoles case. I have some revealing things to tell you. You just wait,” he said. ABS-CBN
