Once bitten, not shy: Duterte offers Gibo defense post anew

Will he say yes the second time around?

President Rodrigo Duterte once again asked Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro to be his Defense chief, in a speech given before military officers at the Palace Rizal Hall on Tue, Aug 23.

“I hope he does accept,” Duterte said of Teodoro, who served as Defense chief under the Arroyo administration.

The chief executive said he is appointing current Defense secretary Delfin Lorenzana, who used to be based in Washington, as envoy to the United States, and is looking for his replacement, reports Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Teodoro ran for president in 2010, but lost.

“Gibo is very talented, very bright, and he handles himself very well, both privately and officially,” said Duterte.

The position was first offered to Teodoro in May, but he declined.

Should Teodoro refuse the position again, Duterte said he will choose from among current military officials. “Marami naman dito, mamili na lang ako. You’re all good,” he said.

(There are a lot here, I can just choose. You are all good.)
