Abu Sayyaf behead abducted teen

We like to think positive when it comes to the state of the Philippines — but as long as a terrorist group is still around to abduct and behead people then we can never feel truly safe.

On Wed evening, Aug 24, the Abu Sayyaf Group reportedly beheaded an 18-year-old hostage in Sulu.

Patrick James Almodovar was abducted in Jolo, Sulu, on Jul 24.

The Abu Sayyaf demanded PHP1 million for his release and said it would behead the teenager by Aug 24 if they didn’t get the ransom money.

Since Almodovar was not from a rich family, his relatives and friends were able to raise only PHP100,000.

According to ABS-CBN News, Major Filemon Tan Jr, spokesperson of the Western Mindanao Command, revealed that a severed head was recovered in Barangay Kadjatian, Indanan, Sulu, past 7:30pm last night.

“The head is believed to belong to Almodovar,” said the report.
