Tim Yap: ‘I neither use nor sell drugs’

In the war against drugs, everyone seems to be a suspect until they declare themselves innocent.

Such is the case of television host and club owner Tim Yap, who denied rumors that he is hiding from the authorities because of his alleged involvement in the drug trade.

In a text message sent to Jun Nardo of the tabloid Bandera, Tim said he does not understand where the ugly (and potentially fatal) rumor is being spread despite the fact that he is cooperating with the Philippine National Police as a bar owner.

“I wanna clear it once and for all. Hindi po ako gumagamit ng bawal na gamot at ni isang beses never po akong nagbenta ng kahit anong ipinagbabawal na droga. Hindi po ako nagtatago,” he said.

(I wanna clear it once and for all. I do now use illegal drugs and I have not even once sold any illegal drug. I am not hiding.)

Tim co-owns a number of popular high-end clubs in Metro Manila, including The Palace in Taguig City and 71 Gramercy in Makati City.

In an interview with radio dzBB on Wed, Aug 31, Tim reiterated his stand.

“Hindi po porke’t nandoon ako sa party scene, hindi porke’t nasa bars ako at sa events, eh ako po’y nagsu-supply. Hindi po totoo ito. For me, napakasakit, napaka-unfair. It’s something that na hindi ko inakalang ever ma-a-attach sa pangalan ko,” he said.

(Just because I am part of the party scene or I am at bars and events does not mean I supply [illegal drugs]. This is not true. For me, it is hurtful, it is unfair. It’s something that I did not expect will ever be attached to my name.)

Celebrities are beginning to react to the Duterte administration’s war against drugs as it threatens to zero in on the entertainment industry.

ABS-CBN talent management arm Star Magic has revealed that it supervised a voluntary drug test on 40 of its artists over the weekend.
