Amid criticism that it’s war against drugs has been focusing on marginalized sectors of the country, Philippine National Police has taken its Oplan Tokhang (“knock and plead”) to the posh villages of Makati.
The Southern Police District implemented a different version of the controversial “knock and plead” operations.
Uniformed men knocked on homes in Forbes Park and Magallanes Village on Mon, Sep 5 to distribute flyers informing residents of PNP’s anti-drug campaign.
They also disseminated information about usual neighborhood problems like theft, burglary, and other crimes.
The respective homes of the ambassador of India and the ambassador of Oman weren’t spared from the anti-drug operations, GMA News reports.
Other gated Makati subdivisions, like Urdaneta and San Lorenzo, had been visited by the PNP earlier.
Condominium units and call center offices are reportedly the next targets of the PNP’s anti-drug campaign amid reports that shabu, marijuana and the designer drug called ‘ecstasy’ are being sold in those areas.
The Duterte administration’s war against drugs has been criticized for being anti-poor. Nearly 2,500 deaths have been tallied in the first two months of the campaign.
