Awkward? John Estrada stars in TV show with Gelli de Belen, sister of ex-wife Janice

It’s a small world, after all.

John Estrada is part of ABS-CBN’s primetime drama Magpahanggang Wakas, which is set to premiere on Mon, Sep 19.

The show features Jericho Rosales and Arci Munoz as star-crossed lovers; John will serve as the show’s antagonistic third wheel.

Who else is part of the show? Gelli de Belen, in her first show in ABS-CBN after leaving TV5 in 2015, who plays the role of John’s ex-wife.

If you didn’t know, Gelli is the sister of actress Janice de Belen.

And of course, Janice is John’s ex-wife. John has four kids with Janice. Their marriage was annulled in 2004.

During the press conference for Magpahanggang Wakas on Sun, Sep 11, John said working with Gelli has not been an issue.

“Wala naman talaga akong problema sa kanya [Gelli]. Kay Janice lang ako may problema. Kay Gelli, wala, okay kami ni Gelli,” he added.

(I don’t have problems with Gelli. My problem is with Janice. With Gelli, none, we are okay.)

Obviously, this is a joke. Janice and John’s wife, Priscilla Meirelles, actually work together in the ABS-CBN daytime drama Be My Lady

But while working with Gelli isn’t a problem, working with Janice would be another issue. In a previous interview, Janice said she would rather not work with John.

“I think she’s vocal about it na ayaw niya akong makatrabaho, so ganun na. Wala naman tayong magagawa, di ba? Marami pa namang artista diyan,” he quipped.

(I think she’s vocal about it that she does not want to work with me. We can’t do anything about, right? There are plenty of actors there.)

John said he also won’t agree to doing an “intimate scene” with Gelli. For obvious reasons.

“Hindi siguro mangyayari iyon. Medyo awkward iyon. I’ll probably tell the director, ‘Sorry po, hindi ko kayang gawin iyon’,” he said.

(That probably won’t happen. That would be awkward. I’ll probably tell the director, ‘Sorry, I can’t do that.’)
