After surviving a supertyphoon, Typhoon ‘Gener’ nears Batanes

Just days after surviving Supertyphoon ‘Ferdie,’ another weather disturbance is looming over Batanes, the northernmost islands of the Philippines.

Batanes has been placed under a state of calamity after substantial damage from ‘Ferdie’ earlier this week. Lines of communication and power are still down in most of the islands.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Typhoon ‘Gener’ will not make a landfall in Batanes as it makes its way to Taiwan, but its effects will still be felt.

The Manila Bulletin reports “moderate to heavy rains are expected within the 400 km diameter of the typhoon,” which includes Batanes.

PAGASA announced Signal No. 1 is now raised over Batanes, Babuyan Group of Islands, and Northern Cagayan.

Typhoon ‘Gener’ is expected to be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Monday morning, Sep 18.
