Heart Evangelista meets Duterte, describes him as ‘soft-spoken’

President Rodrigo Duterte may be receiving criticism left and right these days. But maybe he can rest in the fact that he’s gained a new admirer.

In an Instagram post on Sun, Sep 18, Heart Evangelista revealed that she met Duterte in an undisclosed event with her husband, Sen. Francis Escudero, in Davao City.

The actress wrote she had a “nice chat” with Duterte about her art “and other things.”

“It was pretty AWESOME,” Heart said. She even posted a photo of Duterte looking at photos of her paintings on her phone. Who knew the President was interested in art?

For those of you not in the know, Heart dabbles in art. Last month, she even held an exhibit that featured her hand-painted designer bags.

In an interview with Nerisa Almo of Pep.ph on Mon, Sep 19, Heart said Duterte was “very gracious, very proper.”

“He was very, very kind. I didn’t expect him to be very sweet, soft-spoken… He’s very nice, funny, sweet.”

“Parang hindi siya presidente,” Heart added.

(It’s like he’s not president.)

Meanwhile, in an interview with GMA News Online, she said her conversation with Duterte was “very friendly” and “relaxed.”

Heart, 31, is the wife of Sen. Francis Escudero, who, with Sen. Grace Poe, ran against Duterte and running mate Alan Peter Cayetano during the May 2016 elections.

Heart said Duterte even joked about her doing a version of the famous The Last Supper mural painting by Leonardo da Vinci — but with a bit of a twist.

“Ibahin ko daw ang hitsura ni Judas. Gawin ko raw guwapo naman. Something like that. Titignan ko kung kaya ko ‘yun. Medyo madugo ‘yun.”

(He said I should change the appearance of Judas, make him good looking. Something like that. I will see if I can do that, it’s gonna be difficult.)

She further told GMA News Online, “I will definitely give him one of my paintings. But I’m not sure if it’s going to be The Last Supper. Na-pressure ako doon.”

Good to know Duterte maintained his signature, off-beat sense of humor around Heart.
