Charo Santos ‘moves on’ after ‘Ang Babaeng Humayo’ was not picked as PH’s bet for Oscars

When Lav Diaz’s Ang Babaeng Humayo won the Golden Lion at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival earlier this month, many thought it would be sent to represent the Philippines at the 89th Academy Awards.

But that honor was given to Brillante Mendoza Ma’Rosa, the movie that won for Jaclyn Jose the best actress award at the 69th Cannes Film Festival last May.

Former ABS-CBN president and CEO Charo Santos, the star of Ang Babaeng Humayo, said during the press conference for the movie on Wed, Sep 21 that “it would have been great if our film was chosen.”

But she added, “Pero iba-iba ang panlasa ng tao. (People have different tastes) You accept that.”

Charo even said let’s just be happy for Ma’Rosa

“Kung hindi napapanahon, ‘di hindi. May pagka-philosophical kasi ang pagtingin ko sa buhay, eh. Kung hindi nauukol, eh ‘di hindi naman. You just go with the flow and move on.”

(If it’s not the right time, then it’s not. My outlook in life is philosophical. If it’s not meant to be, then it’s not. You just go with the flow and move on.)

Now that she has made a successful movie comeback, Charo said she is open to doing a mainstream film project as long as “the material is good saka maganda ang character.”

She’s also willing to do a “kilig” movie with ABS-CBN top actor and heartthrob Piolo Pascual.

“Sana, mapansin na ako ngayon ng Star Cinema, ano? Siguro naman, papansinin na nila ako ngayon,” she quipped.

(I hope Star Cinema notices me, no? I think they’ll notice me now.)

Charo’s sister, Malou Santos, is the head of Star Cinema, ABS-CBN’s movie production arm.

In any case, Ang Babaeng Humayo will open in theaters on Sep 28.
