10 Things we’re excited about this October

1. Jam to indie music at the Bandwagon Music Market 2016

Oct. 1 Singapore-based music site Bandwagon expanded to the Philippines a couple of beats ago, and they’re organizing their first-ever music market on Oct 1 at the Power Mac Center Spotlight at Circuit, Makati. The show features performances from the best of the local indie music scene, as well as Singapore’s indie music pioneer iNCH and hip hop electronic artist Intriguant. 2. Go shopping at the Landers Superstore,Otis

Oct 6. If you’ve been postponing your visit to the Landers Superstore because it’s all the way in Balintawak, then we’ve got good news for you: an Otis branch is opening on Oct 6! With items like Nutella tubs, wine ice cream, and rare snacks, Landers promises a fun grocery experience like no other. The membership fee is definitely worth it. 3. Have a good breakfast at Denny’s

Oct 7. A place that offers a hearty, greasy breakfast is always welcome to the Manila dining scene.The Bistro group is opening the first Denny’s in the Philippines on Oct 7 at the Uptown Mall in Taguig, and they’re bringing all the good things that the iconic American diner is known for like hand-smashed burgers, T-bone steak, and a variety of signature breakfast items. 4. Plan your next trip at the World Travel Expo 2016

Oct 7-9. It’s that most wonderful time of the year when you can plan your holidays and purchase airline tickets on a budget. The World Travel Expo is happening, and it’s the best time to book your trip to Bali or Tokyo or Bohol. This year’s travel festival features vendors from the travel and hospitality industry that will help make planning a breeze. 5.  Drink unlimited beer at the Oktoberfest

Oct 7-16. We can’t talk about October without mentioning Oktoberfest, the beer festival that Germany has made famous all around the world. A 10-Day Oktoberfest celebration is happening at Chaos Night Club, where free-flowing beer from eight countries, a German buffet and local live band entertainment are in the lineup. To add more fun, there are also beer games and raffle draws. 6. Watch a different kind of performance at the Neo-Filipino Dance 2016

Oct 8-9. In Neo-Filipino, Filipino choreographers use other art forms like music, literature, theater and film to push the boundaries of Philippine contemporary dance. This year’s theme is “Take-off,” inspired by the conflicting political climate in the country. What to expect? Fresh and bold insights on what it means to be a Filipino today. 7. Sit back, relax and enjoy the Korean Film Festival

Oct 13-16. Want more of Train to Busan? Explore the world of Korean film in the Korean Film Festival happening from Oct 13 to 16 at SM Megamall. Organized by the Korean Cultural Center, the festival features five films ranging from rom-com to drama to suspense. Best thing about it? It’s free. And don’t worry, the moves have English subtitles. 8. Enjoy a different kind of meal at Noche Dine in the Dark

Starting Oct 14. The pitch-black dining concept that has already become popular in other parts of the world is arriving in Manila in Oct. The experience is meant to help diners appreciate food without the sense of sight, plus it’s also meant to help raise awareness about what it’s like to be visually impaired. 9. Watch Miss Saigon’s cinema screening of the West End’s 25th Anniversary Performance

Oct 20. The 25th anniversary performance of Miss Saigon, recorded live in front of a sold-out audience at London’s Prince Edward Theatre, screens in Philippine cinemas on Oct 20. Our very own Rachel Anne Go makes an appearance as Gigi. The finale has appearances from the original cast, including Jonathan Pryce, Lea Salonga and Simon Bowman. It’s the next best thing to watching the show in West End. The details of the Manila screening haven’t been finalized yet, but you can watch out for the details on the Miss Saigon site.

 

10. Appreciate beauty at the the Philippine School of Interior Design (PSID) exhibit

Ongoing until Oct 31. Want to see beautiful things? Go to the annual exhibition of the Philippine School of Interior Design, where graduating students showcase their thesis projects. Called “Evolution,” this year’s exhibit will feature 24 booths featuring designs inspired by the past, present and future. It’s a good way to learn about design trends since the PSID students are very passionate about explaining their works. G/F Square Building, Greenfield District,Mandaluyong City; Facebook, 10am-5pm.
