Note: This is a developing story and will be updated as more details are confirmed and made available.

On Wed morning, Sep 28, Department of Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II confirmed that a certain Tony Co, an inmate at the New Bilibid Prison, died after the riot at Building 14.

“Initial reports say that the riot broke out at around 7:30am, when another inmate, convicted police officer Clarence Dongail confronted Tony Co’s group who were allegedly having a shabu session,” notes Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Initial reports say a knife was involved in the attack. However, it is not yet clear who exactly killed Co.

“Three other high-profile inmates — Jaybee Sebastian, Peter Co and Vicente Sy — were hurt from the riot. They were taken to the Medical Center ng Muntinlupa City for treatment,” reports The Philippine Star.

It’s worth noting that Sebastian and Peter are expected to give their testimonies in the ongoing Senate hearing concerning the illegal drug trade.

The report pointed out: “Sebastian and Peter were recently implicated in the drug war of President Rodrigo Duterte. Sebastian was allegedly a favored inmate who is in cahoots with former Justice secretary now Sen. Leila De Lima.”

The report likewise recalled that “Peter was mentioned by Duterte as one of the drug lords who continued to direct illegal drug operations from behind bars.”

Duterte stated that Peter “is a drug triad member operating in Luzon and Metro Manila.

Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. had also identified Peter as his son Kerwin Espinosa Jr.’s source of drugs.
