‘Walk of shame’ Tanauan mayor Anthony Halili laughs off inclusion in Oplan Tokhang list

Tanauan City mayor Anthony Halili, who is known for parading drug suspects around his turf, was included in the list of high-value targets in connection with the government war on drugs. The list contains names of suspected coddlers of drug pushers and users in Batangas.  This is rather suprising, as Halili had previously been tagged as his city’s version of President Rodrigo Duterte, who is known for his tough anti-drug stance.

Halili was included in the recent Oplan Tokhang drug drive headed by Tanauan chief Superintendent Robert Baesa, who went to the Halili’s office on Thur, Sept 29 to ask the mayor for information and to make him sign a document for drug suspects.

Vehemently denying his involvement in drugs, the mayor refused to sign the document. He said that this could be a scheme orchestrated by his political enemies, ABS-CBN News reports.

“I was shocked, and I just laughed it off. What’s this? Why are they doing this?” asked Halili.

Halili organized a the Mayor’s Anti-Crime Group (MACG), a group of civilians who are helping the police fight crime. MACG paraded 11 drug suspects in “Flores de Pusher” in May and seven drug suspects in ”June Bride and Groom” walk of shame.

Halili has been serving mayor of Tanauan City since 2013.
